Introduction

Their eyes were watching God is a fictional novel that takes place in Florida in the early 20th century written by Zora Neale Hurston. The main character is named Janie Crawford. Throughout the story, she tells about her life's journey to her friend Phoebe. One of her tales is about her grandmother, Nanny, a former slave. The author has published over 50 novels, but died penniless. Her most famous work in Their Eyes Were Watching God, which was written in 1937.
